Three-Dimensional Segmentation and Visualization of Cerebral Arteries and Veins from Simultaneously Acquired MRA and MRV based on Graph-Cuts and Vessel Enhancement Filter

چکیده
Introduction Accurate segmentation and appropriate visualization of the arteries and veins in the brain improve the detection and characterization of vascular abnormality such as cerebral aneurysm, arteriovenous malformation and tumor vascularity. Traditional 2D projection display of vascular images such as minimum-intensity projection (minIP) of veins in MRV offers limited visualization of complex vascular structures in the brain. This limitation becomes more problematic when we desire to display both the arteries and veins together that are acquired simultaneously from newly-introduced compatible dual-echo arteriovenography (CODEA). Thus, we propose a new 3D segmentation method to segment the arteries and veins from MRA and MRV in the brain, respectively, using a graph-cuts technique [2] and a vessel enhancement filter [3] and then display the arteries and veins together in 3D.

Three-dimensional multi-scale line filter for segmentation and visualization of curvilinear structures in medical images
This paper describes a method for the enhancement of curvilinear structures such as vessels and bronchi in three-dimensional (3-D) medical images. A 3-D line enhancement filter is developed with the aim of discriminating line structures from other structures and recovering line structures of various widths. The 3-D line filter is based on a combination of the eigenvalues of the 3-D Hessian matr...

A Cerebral Arteriovenous Malformation is an abnormal connection between arteries and veins. Normally the blood flows from arteries to veins through capillary bed. But patient having AVM, the capillary bed will be absent. The veins cannot handle the pressure of blood flowing from arteries to veins and it ruptures. The success of treatment by embolization in interventional Neuroradiolgy is highly...
متن کاملCURVES: Curve evolution for vessel segmentation
The vasculature is of utmost importance in neurosurgery. Direct visualization of images acquired with current imaging modalities, however, cannot provide a spatial representation of small vessels. These vessels, and their branches which show considerable variations, are most important in planning and performing neurosurgical procedures. In planning they provide information on where the lesion d...

Background and purpose: Selection of suitable parameters for brain MRA requires accurate measures, because the image quality depends on the location of arteries, veins and also the velocity differences of blood, taking into account the low blood flow in small veins and arteries, use of paramagnetic contrast media is recommended. Hence, in present study, we investigated the imaging optimizatio...

The purpose of this article is to compare the visualization quality of ICV and their tributaries on PSI-MRV, 3D CE-MRV, and 3D CE-FSPGR. PSI-MRV has been shown to delineate the ICV, TSV, SV, anterior caudate nucleus veins, and medial atrial veins effectively. Due to its advantages of no contrast material injection, acceptable examination times, and no arterial contamination, PSI-MRV should be c...
